Bass fishing is an exciting and challenging activity, and it can be done in many parts of North America. Because they are naturally feisty and aggressive, catching a largemouth bass isn’t always easy, but it is always satisfying to catch a large one. If you want to learn more about this interesting sport, the following pointers on bass fishing should be useful to you.
Boats are not necessary when you are fishing; but they sometimes can put you in a better spot to catch fish. While serious bass fishermen have special boats made for this purpose, you can use anything from a rowboat to a canoe or fishing kayak. To go where the bass are most likely to be, you will need a boat that can navigate in shallow water. One way to see what is down below you when you are out in your boat is to engage the use of a fish finder. It’s hard to predict where the fish will be at any particular time, but this sonar device will give you an edge. Some fishermen frown on using these types of devices; but ultimately it is up to every individual.
The rod and reel of course are the most basic pieces of equipment you’ll need for fishing. If bass fishing is a new sport you are trying, don’t invest a lot of money in the beginning on the most expensive equipment out there. For a rod, you’re best off with a medium action rod of 6 feet.
A light and durable rod made of graphite is probably your best choice. The open faced spinning reel is easier to manage so that would be a good choice for a beginning angler. The reel you choose needs to be able to hold at least 150 feet of Fishing Line. Finally, you’ll want to choose the right fishing line; a monofilament line with low visibility is a good choice.
While many types of bait can be effective for bass fishing, one factor many inexperienced fishermen ignore is color. We see color a little differently than a fish does; this is something you should keep in mind when you purchase your lures. Given that during the date you may experience a myriad of changes; you should have a lure to accommodate each one. You need to try and bring harmony between your lure and the shades and climate you are experiencing. If it is a cloudy or gloomy day, use the lure that best fits this description. Your lure should replicate the setting of your environment. Try to choose colors for your lures that resemble the type of baitfish that are in the area in which you’re fishing. Learning about bass fishing goes well beyond the scope of this article, though it is a great start. If you decide to try out bass fishing, however you don’t catch a single thing, you may still love the fishing aspect very much. With a little practice, and by picking up as many tips as you can, your days spent fishing will yield better and better results.
