  1. What is Competitive Division and what is Instructional Division?

Each Association is required to have only 1 Competitive Division (D-I) team at each weight, while they may create as many Instructional Division teams at each weight as they desire. It is up to each Association to determine how to divide the players onto D-I or D-II teams.

  1. If my child is too heavy, can he move up a weight class?

Prior to making weight, a player may move up in weight to play with older more mature players.

Each Association is responsible for setting their own dates and prices for registration. Check each Associations Website for details..

  1. I was told that my child could not register because “Registration is Closed.” What do I do?

Associations may close their registration for specific ages, based on criteria in our By-Laws. You are free to register at another park.

  1. We just had our first scrimmage and I do not like the way the coach is doing his job, may I change teams?

After certification (third Sunday in August) no player may change teams. Prior to that date, talk to the Association President and Athletic Director about changing teams.

  1. Why are my 2 children playing at 2 different parks this week?

Competitive Division games and Instructional Division games are scheduled separately. Instructional Division games are scheduled in such a way that we hope to keep all Instructional teams together from a specific Association, but that may not always happen.

  1. Why are we playing on Tuesday Night?

Tuesday night games are only used because circumstances do not allow for a Saturday game.

  1. I pay no gate fee at my park but this other Association wants $3, do I have to pay?

Some Associations use their gate fee to help offset the cost of officials, it is considered a donation. It costs around $200 to pay the officials for each game.

  1. Last year my child played for a Competitive Division Team, this year they want him to play for an Instructional Division team. Can they do that?

Each Association is responsible for determining how players are assigned to teams within the Association. The Association is required by NGYFL, Inc. rules to tell you how this procedure is done, although it may be as simple as “Because we said so.”

  1. I see a representative of the league at all my child’s games, why are you picking on us?

Only 1 of the 9 elected (and non-voting) members of NGYFL have players in the league. We try to see as many teams as we can during the year, and if we get complaints about a specific team, we might try to see them a few more times than normal.

  1. How does the weigh-in work?

Each player, alphabetically, enters the weight room, states their name and number (They must have their game jersey on or in hand) and steps on the scale. The weight commissioner or viewing coach for the other team says OK and the player leaves the room. Any player that is initially overweight may not leave the weight room.

  1. What if the player is overweight?

The player may only step on the scale twice after that. The players’ coach should know how much equipment the player should have on for weigh-in. Players who are close should weigh-in in their jersey and a pair of shorts (no socks or shoes). For the second time on the scales, taking off as much as the parent and coach feel necessary to make weight (sometime to the underwear). After that, it’s up to the player and parent if the child wants to stand on the scale without any clothes.

  1. My child has to strip to make weight, is this fair to the player?

We have established some modesty guidelines for this purpose. NGYFL expects that the parent will be in the room for this, as well as the weight commissioner. Either (or both) of the two observing coaches may excuse themselves.

  1. How do I get involved?

Run for Association President, they are the only ones who can vote on rule changes. The 9 elected Commission members can’t vote, and only enforce the rules. If you want one of those positions, talk to your Association President and be at the meeting the Second Sunday in February.
